About Second Chance Canine, LLC.

Certified, force-free behavior work

Second Chance Canine, LLC is run by Tisha L. Angelo, CPDT-KA, a certified professional dog trainer serving Akron, Canton, Cleveland and surrounding areas since 2009. The site is explicit about method: "100% committed to using only humane, force-free, non-coercive training tools and reward-based methods, focusing on positive reinforcement," with techniques stated to align with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. This is full-service behavioral consulting, not just basic manners.

Programs and structure

The stated focus areas include new-pet integration, basic manners and puppy training, aggression toward people or other animals, leash reactivity, socialization, fear/anxiety and separation anxiety, resource guarding, destructive behavior, and house training. Three delivery options are offered — in-home training, training at the SCC facility, and board & train — and every new client begins with a two-hour behavior consultation and training session to build a plan. The site is transparent about pricing: in-home sessions start at $250 for the initial two hours and $150 for follow-ups (varying with travel), facility sessions start at $200/$100, and boarding runs $50/day for one dog. Drop-off and pick-up hours run 9am-9pm by arrangement. The combination of certification, a stated humane methodology, and published pricing makes this a strong fit for owners of reactive or anxious dogs.

I met Tisha in 2013 when we partnered with a local rescue to foster dogs. At the time, we were very inexperienced dog owners. Throughout our entire fostering experience (2013-2019), Tisha was an invaluable resource. She educated us in many, many ways with our first foster dog. Tisha showed us how to provide a safe, consistent, and positive training experience for our reactive foster. Tisha even helped to keep me calm and get our foster dog to the emergency hospital when there was a medical emergency. Years later, Tisha recommended the perfect dog for us when we were looking to add to our family.

I could give endless examples of Tisha's expertise, patience, understanding, knowledge, friendship, kindness, and everything in between. She has educated us in so many ways, as well as supported and guided us during challenging times with our pups (foster and personal). We wouldn't be the dog people we are today without Tisha's impeccable services. I consider myself a fairly educated and experienced dog owner now (thanks to Tisha and others!), but I still called Tisha a few months ago to assess some concerns I had. She will always be our go to for dog behavior information, positive reinforcement training, and so much more.

One of our pups has been going to "Aunt Tisha's" house for boarding for about 2 years now and LOVES it!

If I could give Tisha 100 stars, it still wouldn't be enough!

We met Tisha soon after we rescued Lucy. She had a rough start in life and we struggled with leash reactivity. We also worried whether she would ever be able to play with other dogs, and do things that dogs love to do. We did one on one coaching and board and trains, and the progress we have seen is amazing. If you are looking for sound, fact-based, common sense skills to allow your dog to live its best life, give Tisha a call. You will be very happy with the results…just put in the work and you'll see the difference. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Tisha to others looking for dog training in the Akron / Northeastern Ohio area!

Tisha is a very knowledgeable and passionate trainer. She has helped me keep multiple rescue dogs in my home. One of my dogs has quite challenging behavioral difficulties (aggression) related to trust issues stemming from his previous abuse and neglect. He is otherwise an amazing dog. Thanks to Tisha’s help, I am able to keep him safe and happy in my home with my other dog. I am and will continue to be forever grateful for the help Tisha has provided my family and I. As I continue to adopt rescues in the future, Tisha will be my first call for any training needs.

Tisha is a gem! We used Tisha for our rescue pup that never was around cats. We have one indoor cat and barn cats in our yard. The poor dog had a pretty high prey drive and couldn't escape the cats!

Tisha came to our home to assess our environment and help us understand what needs to be done for a successful transition. Tisha was extremely honest and said this will take a while, so you must be committed. We trusted her process and followed her steps. Checked in every few weeks with where we were at and 1 year later our cat and dog are coexisting! Our cat now engages play with our dog!

Tisha is very knowledgeable in her field and she understood both the needs of the cat and the dog. She never once said it couldn’t work, only that it was up to us to put in the homework.

We are forever grateful to Tisha and so happy with our results. It truly was a rewarding process, even though it was long, it was worth it to do it right and with ONLY positive reinforcement!

We love you Tisha!!!

I’ve known Tisha for over 10 years and first met her when I was volunteering at the humane society. Tisha helped me so much with my two rescue pups! I already had my girls for a couple of years, but Tisha’s training help was so beneficial.

My daughter was born in 2015 and Tisha came over to my house before the baby was born to help work with my girls and provide advice on helping them adjust to the new baby. My dog Athena had a lot of anxiety and stress issues that made us concerned about her around the baby, but the resources and help Tisha provided helped us with the adjustment and my daughter, and later my son, were able to enjoy many years with the girls with no incidents!

Also, Tisha is the only person I ever trusted to watch my girls when we went out of town! We lost Daphne in 2022 and Athena in late 2023. I’m not ready for a new dog yet, but when I am, Tisha will be the first person I call!
