About Best In Home Dog Services

Premium in-home training and dog walking

Best In Home Dog Services describes itself as "a premium in home service, designed to enrich the lives of both dogs and their families", built around positive dog training lessons in the home, daily walks, and care for the dog and the home while the owner is away. A free consultation is offered on both the home and services pages, and the site states the business is fully bonded and insured.

Services and published rates

The services and pricing page lists dog training lessons at $200, describing a tailor-made plan developed for the individual dog, with individual lessons focused on more immediate behavioral issues and multiple lesson programs focused on progress over time. The same page publishes dog walking at $30 for a 30 minute walk, $40 for a 45 minute walk and $50 for a one hour walk, plus $10 per additional dog. The page repeats that only positive methods are used.

The trainer

The about page names Richard Hopkins as the person who runs the business and says his lifelong passion for working with dogs started at an early age, learning from "a family tree full of dog trainers". It says he launched a grassroots dog walking and sitting business in 2010, and in 2012 met his mentor Cathryn Jurewicz, whom the page credits with 30+ years of experience including obedience, agility, rally, and CGC courses and evaluations. It says he apprenticed under her for six months and worked alongside her for four years, with the works of B.F. Skinner, Ian Dunbar, Karen Pryor and Patricia McConnell named as the primary learning sources. The page then describes two facility roles, first as manager and head dog trainer of a 1,500 sq ft daycare and boarding facility and later of a 7,500 sq ft facility, at times making him responsible for 100+ dogs. It dates the launch of Best In Home Dog Training to 2013 and says it evolved into Best In Home Dog Services in April of 2015, adding that he has worked with dogs of all ages, breeds and temperaments, many of them with special behavioral and medical needs.
