Adventure-based training in Waukee

Chasing The Wild is based in Waukee and serves dogs and their people throughout the Des Moines metro. Founder Kim Smith spent more than 14 years in veterinary medicine, including four years in holistic practice, before creating the business, and co-trainer Ryan leads adventures and supports dogs in the programs. The business lists 10+ years of dog training experience and is state licensed and insured.

Approach

Chasing The Wild believes dogs need adventure, fulfillment, clear communication and chances to express their natural instincts, beyond obedience alone. Training takes place on a private 15-acre property with hiking trails, a creek and a climate-controlled dog barn, and focuses on real-world experiences, pack adventures and behavior rehabilitation.

Programs

Programs include Pack Foundations, Return To The Pack, The Reset board and train, Hike x Train, Day Train, private coaching, structured boarding, and workshops and retreats. Goals include improved recall, reduced reactivity, better social skills and increased confidence.
