About Crawmers Grooming & Training

Crawmer's Animal Training on Best Road in West Sand Lake is the widest-scoped animal training business in this directory's Albany supply, and it says so itself: more than forty-five years, and a service list that runs well past dogs.

The dog work

The published dog program covers obedience, an explicit problem-behavior track, agility, general training, tricks, in-kennel training, therapy dogs, canine scent detection, service and hearing dogs for deaf handlers, protection and guard dogs, and sport work including Schutzhund. Grooming runs from the same premises. The site also publishes a long library of articles on dog aggression, pit bulls, chihuahuas and rescue dogs.

Beyond dogs

The front page is essentially a list of who calls them: owners with a housebreaking problem or a dangerous horse, companies shooting a commercial, a news story that needs an expert opinion, a court case that needs an expert witness, a scientific conference that needs a speaker, and colleges needing video of animals demonstrating applied behavior science. Pigs, parrots, horses, cats and exotics are all named.

What that means for a dog owner

Two things. First, the aggression, protection and scent-detection end of the range is unusual local supply and it is published rather than implied. Second, this is a generalist animal-behavior practice rather than a modern pet-dog school, and the site reads that way – useful if your problem is unusual, and worth a conversation about method if you are shopping specifically for force-free pet training.
