About Dog Tags Training School

Dog Tags Training School is a Morgantown group-class operation. Its stated method is up-to-date, science-based positive training, described as reward-based, positive and fear-free, with an emphasis on relationship building and on the owner learning clear communication alongside the dog. The school frames its work around three principles: establishing a good relationship with the dog, practicing appropriate management techniques, and training the behaviors you want the dog to exhibit.

Classes

Two levels are published, each six one-hour classes, capped at ten dogs and often smaller. The Puppy and Beginning level covers sit, down, come when called, off, targeting, attention, loose leash walking, healthcare including dental handling, and enrichment. The Intermediate level works on reliability and consistency, performing with more distraction, distance and duration, additional cues and generalization, tricks and games, and refining existing skills. Both levels are published at $180 plus tax. The stated goal is a dog that will sit, lie down, stay, walk calmly on a leash, come when called, pay attention when asked and leave things alone when told; the program also addresses jumping up and chewing.

Where and when

Classes are held indoors at BOPARC's Marilla Center in Sabraton, with the surrounding park used in good weather, and all family members are encouraged to attend and take part. Courses run six weeks, with dates published on the school's own schedule.

Credentials

The school states membership of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers and lists an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator credential.
