I’m still a client here and I seriously LOVE these guys! My 3-year-old Aussie, Blue, had never done any training and started showing some aggressive behaviors. I had zero clue where to even start, but the trainers here have taught me so much — I finally feel like I understand my dog and what he needs.

Blue did a 3-week board and train (which they even extended to 4 weeks at no extra charge!) and the results were incredible. My dog who used to get nervous and reactive around people and other dogs is now calmly playing with 7+ dogs and walking through Lowe’s like a total pro, not phased by anything around him.

It’s not a “send your dog away and they come back perfect” kind of thing — you definitely have to keep up with the training at home (and for life!) — but it’s been worth every single dollar and friends and family are incredibly impressed by this new dog I have 😉 I’m still doing weekly lessons and continuing to see progress every week.

The staff is amazing — huge shout-out to Michelle, Ron, and Junior for being so patient, kind, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Couldn’t recommend this place more! 🐾💙

Training with Glass City K9 has been the best investment that we have made in our lives and in our dog. To say that this program has been life-changing is an understatement. Our dog was a young, fearful basset hound with the typical lack of impulse control when we began the training. After the two week board and train and six months of adhering to the structure, we’ve seen him blossom. He has self-confidence and has become a lot braver in new situations because he trusts us. I have become a more confident dog owner as well, and it is rewarding validation to hear strangers comment on how well behaved he is (not jumping to greet people, sitting and letting runners pass us on the sidewalk, calmly greeting kids, etc.). Glass City K9 has given me the greatest gift, which is that my dog and I are a unified team. I’ve never had a stronger bond with a dog and I give all credit to this program.

Buckle up, dear reader, because I was an English major and I write stories. Short stories are harder to write than long ones. I promise that my review will be worth your time if you are seriously considering GCK9 for your dog.

I chose the "Silver Plan." Essentially, the trainers train us, the owners, to train our own dogs. We are paying for them to pass on their expertise. Keep in mind that if, as an owner, one does not FOLLOW THROUGH with the plan as given by the trainers, the results will not be optimal.

I am, by profession, a teacher. So when I am told to specifically follow a lesson plan with my dog every week, I follow it.

I have a husky. I'm told they don't like to listen. When I adopted her (rescue), she was pulling me so hard on the leash that I was falling over onto the pavement. She caused me to wreck a perfectly good pair of Silver jeans, and she tore my belly button piercing (it never healed… it hurt a LOT… I finally gave up and took it out). I was not a happy dog mom. I tried positive "treat training" and she learned every command quickly but would only comply if offered a treat.

Well, by week three with GCK9, my girl was stopping at street intersections without even being prompted. Why? Because I trained her to do so because I didn't want her to get smoked by a car. This wasn't even part of GCK9's lesson plans; I kinda just added it in because it naturally followed with what I was being told to train her to do. I LISTENED TO WHAT THE TRAINER SAID AND I DID EXACTLY THAT, then when it all worked and my girl was so proficient she was getting bored, I did some add ons. Folks, know this: YOU WILL GET OUT OF THIS PROGRAM NOT WHAT YOU PAID INTO IT, BUT WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

As for the e-collar, if you're that worried about it, Google "shock collar vs e-collar" and start there. I can put my girl's e-collar in my hand at the level at which I typically train her (which is super low) and I can tell you this: My physical therapist has turned up the tens machine on me WAY higher than I've probably ever turned up the e-collar on my pup, and I wasn't wearing a double coat to buffer it… and I've never been hurt by a tens machine. At the current stage, I only need to actually use her e-collar about 50% of the time. She just knows what she is supposed to do, and she does it.

Admittedly there has been one miscommunication during the course of the training, but GCK9 made immediate plans to compensate for the issue and had the foresight to predict my expectations for the remainder of the training. It was like they read my mind. Sometimes crap happens that is beyond the control of the business, and I'm beyond the point in my life where I'd feel compelled to create drama. Some things just ain't that serious.

At the end of the day, folks, so far I have to say that I believe that I have gotten more value out of this training than my pup has. I could have just done the "easier" Board and Train, but I am infinitely thankful that I chose to put in the hard work myself. Here is why: In a world where I have had to stop paying attention to the news because I feel as if everything has spun into such utter chaos that it has caused me to up my meds and increase the number of mental health therapy sessions I have every month (depression and GAD), training my beautiful dog has given me a sense of purpose and made me feel as if there is something among the chaos that I can actually control. I now wish that I'd have trained a dog before I'd had human children, because it would have made me a more patient, loving, and firm disciplinarian. My 9-YO son is benefitting because he is following my lead and also taking responsibility for our dog's training, which is teaching HIM to be a better human being. If you do it right, your dog won't be the only one to change in a positive way; YOU will as well.

I promise that if you approach GCK9 with the right intention, attitude, and work ethic, you will have zero regrets.

PS: Shout out to Junior! We love him! (The humans in our house anyway… Khaleesi dog thinks he's a jerk. lol!)

My 8 month rescue pup Yuri has been enrolled in their 2 week board and train program. Dave the owner and gage the other trainer I worked with have both been incredibly responsive, understanding, and patient with the training process, for myself and Yuri😊 The free evaluation was incredibly informative and I didn’t feel any guilt from things I felt I lacked knowledge on. Dave even gave me a handful of tips that helped with the issues we were facing with potty training and reactivity before I committed to enrolling in any program and was yet to pay a dime! We were recommended to the two week board and train based off our goals! He came home a week ago and I am super appreciative of the amount of communication that goes into the transition to ensure all training is to their expectations and mine! They took 3 hours to explain everything about the training process of his time there, all the tools and knowledge I need, and took the time to practice with me there so I knew I was using all the techniques correctly! They have us send videos and updates to correct as needed which is also super helpful! Yuri is doing absolutely incredible. I no longer feel this horrible anxiety that I am enabling bad or destructive behaviors, before training I was constantly reading dog training books and videos and so conflicted on differing opinions. Yuri is happier than ever, he’s less stressed because we are able to communicate with him and its built so much trust. We’ve had our first at home visit and I cannot wait to keep training with him, I cannot recommend this place more. Their patience and knowledge combined with their love for dogs is just unmatched!

Glass City K9 is 100% worth the investment. Yes, it’s pricey but they are providing a luxury service in my opinion. I fell victim to the cuteness of a rottie in college and had no idea what I was getting myself into. By the time he was 1.5, he was completely out of control and I felt helpless. He thought he was the boss of me. I was afraid to have people over, take him anywhere, have someone dog-sit for me, etc. I decided to do the 3-week board and train. Rotties are stubborn (IYKYK), so they asked to keep him an additional 2 weeks at no extra charge because they wanted to make sure they were happy/confident with his progress before he came home. I think every trainer there worked with him at one point or another – they were determined!

A lot of people think their dog will be perfectly trained when they come home but that is simply not realistic. When have YOU ever mastered multiple new skills in only 3 weeks? I’ll wait… Be patient and do the work. It’s been a few years since his board and train but I’m writing this review now because I was talking to someone about how this training truly changed my life. He is a completely different dog and we rarely have to use his e-collar unless we’re somewhere new to him. He knows mom is boss now.

We also did one of the lower level trainings with our German Shepherd, Jane, about a year ago. It was amazing as well and I highly recommend! She required a lot less work because we were proactive this time around lol.
