About Good Spirited K9

An in-home board and train in Streator

Good Spirited K9 is run by Douglas and Brandi Walker out of Streator, and the distinguishing claim on the home page is the setting: they "specialize in immersive, in-home board and train programs where dogs learn real-world behaviors in a real home – not a kennel." The site says their journey began over 25 years ago with their first German Shepherd, whose behavior struggles sparked a lifelong commitment to training. Douglas is described as a Registered Nurse with a background in behavioral health; Brandi is described as a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. The site says the two have taught obedience classes for years and serve on a volunteer K9 search and rescue team.

Method

The site calls its approach "comprehensive, clarity-based," built on structure, motivation and trust: positive reinforcement and high engagement first, then "real-world reliability through clear communication and fair accountability once a behavior is fully understood." It is open about tools – food rewards, play, leash pressure, slip leads, prong collars or low-level e-collars, introduced, in its words, "thoughtfully, humanely, and with a heavy emphasis on teaching first." Sessions are deliberately staged where dogs actually live: homes, neighborhoods, parks and busy public spaces.

Programs and published pricing

A 6 Session Training Bundle of one-hour one-on-one obedience lessons is listed at $600.
