About Instinct and Intelligence Canine Training

Instinct and Intelligence Canine Training runs a facility of its own at 3125 Salem Turnpike, Unit E, in Roanoke. The site says "We offer private training as well as group classes at our facility in Roanoke, VA."

Classes

The class list splits into pet dog classes and sport classes. Currently advertised sessions include a CGC class, puppy and family dog sessions, intro to rally, scent work, barn hunt search slots and small-group puppy swim lessons. Alongside the traditional eight-week courses they run shorter workshops and pop-ups, on the reasoning that "Committing to 8 weeks of training is often hard to schedule".

Class sizes and fit

Group sizes are deliberately small: "Class sizes range from 4-8 depending on the course material." They are also explicit about which dogs suit a group setting and which do not, and offer an alternative: "We do offer courses specifically for reactive and overly enthusiastic dogs that would otherwise struggle in class." A facility tour or a meet and greet can be arranged first.

Method

The team is described as "certified positive reinforcement based trainers (aka dog nerds)"; ask which certifications they hold. They say "We utilize backgrounds in ethology, behavioral sciences, attachment theory and learning theory in combination with our years of experience getting results".

Facility and access

A pool is already bookable and agility ring rentals are advertised for 2026. The site includes an access statement – "Enjoying life with your dog is for everyone. We do our best to make sure everyone has access to our services." – and asks clients to request accommodations directly.

What to ask

Ask who the trainers are and what classes cost; contact is by email.
