Iron Range Retrievers Club
Overview
About Iron Range Retrievers Club
Retriever club on the Iron Range
The Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club was formed in 1951 by hunting dog owners from the Virginia, Eveleth and Mountain Iron area to improve the performance of their retrievers in the field. In 1954 it acquired an 80-acre lease at Four Mile Lake that became its home grounds and clubhouse site.
Training nights
Training nights run Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. on the club grounds for $50, which includes two live flyer ducks. They are for hunting breeds only, one dog per handler, and handlers must be retriever club members. Dogs need to do single retrieves and deliver to hand. Sessions cover single and multiple marks, drills, steadiness, and de-cheating and blinds for dogs ready for them.
Events
The club also runs informal trials, field trials and hunt tests, including HRC hunt tests and a NAVHDA test.
