About ISOK9

Practical training in Conroe

ISOK9, short for I Am Shiny Object Dog Training, is a Conroe dog training business founded by trainer Josh Gum. Its idea is that a dog should learn its owner is the most interesting thing around: communication, structure, consistency and follow-through, with a plan fitted to each dog and household after an evaluation.

Programs

Board and Train is the flagship. The dog lives with Josh and joins his family pack, with outings to local parks and pet-friendly stores for distraction work, followed by an owner handover. Private Lessons run once or twice a week with homework, coaching owners to train their own dog. A Puppy Program covers crate training, potty training, feeding routines and play. Across programs the work includes obedience, leash manners, place and impulse control, and recall, taught through e-collar training. A free consultation comes first.

Method and background

ISOK9 describes its approach as balanced training, rewarding wanted behavior and correcting unwanted actions with tools that can include food, crates, prong collars and e-collars. Josh credits himself with over 20 years of dog handling experience from dog walking and pet sitting, and began training in May 2020 with his rescued dog Venom, who earned a Protection Dog Certificate in PSA.

What owners say

One client with a leash-reactive rescue wrote: "Within just a couple sessions, I was able to see drastic improvement in my dog's behavior."
