Jones Animal Behavior
Overview
About Jones Animal Behavior
Jones Animal Behavior is a dog and cat behavior practice serving Northern New York, run by Katenna Jones. It is the one practice in this region that works at the behaviorist end of the field rather than the training end, and the distinction is real: an Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist is certified by the Animal Behavior Society, which is a different and narrower credential from a dog training certificate.
What it handles
The published case list is serious behavior work: dog aggression, owner-directed aggression, reactivity on leash, destructive behavior, and fear, stress and anxiety, alongside cat cases including cat-to-cat conflict and litter box problems. The site separates behavior services from training services and takes both.
Credentials
Her credentials page is unusually detailed and is reproduced here only as she states it: Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist and Animal Behavior Society member since 2004; Certified Dog Behavior Consultant and Certified Cat Behavior Consultant with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants since 2005; Certified Fear Free Trainer since 2018; and Certified Pet Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed, with the CCPDT from 2003 to 2019. Her academic background is an MS in Experimental Psychology from Brown, with coursework in animal behavior, cognition and learning, and a BS in Biology from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Beyond consultations
The practice also does professional development for shelters, rescues, animal control, veterinary and other animal professionals, and she lists roles including behavior consultant to the Humane Society of the United States disaster response team, certified behaviorist with the ASPCA anti-cruelty behavior team, and former Director of Educational Programs at the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. None of this is a claim we have independently verified – neither the Animal Behavior Society nor the IAABC is a registry this project checks – and all of it is recorded as self-reported.
