About Lomita Obedience Training Club
What they offer
Lomita Obedience Training Club is a nonprofit dog training club run by volunteers in the South Bay. It has offered companion and sports training classes since 1954, and most classes are run through Lomita Parks and Recreation in a fenced area at Lomita Park, with others through Rolling Hills Estates Parks and Recreation.
Classes
– **Companion classes:** puppy development and manners for puppies 9 weeks to 6 months, beginning and intermediate companion dog manners, tricks and parkour.
– **Competition training:** classes that prepare handlers to compete in AKC obedience and rally, plus a conformation workshop for purebred dogs.
Method
The club says its companion classes use positive reinforcement such as marking behavior, verbal praise and food rewards. The puppy class handouts cover marker training, sit, down, recall, stays, loose leash walking, handling and leave it. Registration runs through the city's recreation program, and the puppy class notes that it cannot accept dogs with aggression problems.
