About Mountain State K9 Academy

What they offer

Mountain State K9 Academy is a training and dog care facility at 14253 Hwy 392 in Greeley. Its training menu covers basic obedience (leash pulling, jumping, barking, recall, focus around distractions), new puppy training, and behavioral modification for fearful or anxious dogs, reactivity toward people or dogs, separation anxiety, destructive behaviors and impulse control. It also offers refresher training for dogs that finished a program, one-on-one private lessons, and AKC Canine Good Citizen training and testing. Group classes are open only to graduates of its training programs. Boarding, day camp, personal playtimes and bath and nail care are sold alongside training.

How they train

The site names three principles: timing, motivation and consistency. It says rewards and corrections must land the moment a behavior happens, and that it finds what motivates each dog, whether food, toys, praise or correction. Programs start with a free consultation and a customized plan, and end with a handler session and ongoing support. The site says it trains owners as well as dogs.

Good to know

The site says any of its trainers can prepare a dog for the CGC and administer the test. Tours are welcome Monday through Friday. Hours are Monday to Friday 6:30am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm; call 970-353-0778 to ask how long programs run and what they cost.
