About New Skete Monastery – Monks
New Skete is an Eastern Orthodox monastery at 273 New Skete Rd in Cambridge, founded in 1966, and dogs are one of its two published activities rather than a sideline – the site's own page title is "New Skete Monasteries – Monastic Life, Dog Training."
What is published
The Dogs section of the site is a full navigation branch in its own right: Our Life with Dogs, a Puppy Program, Dog Training, a Dog Training Workshop, and a Dog Supporter Circle. That sits beside the monastic branch – becoming a monk or nun, worship and reflections, a podcast, retreats, and a gift shop.
Reading the offer honestly
The workshop format is the one an owner is most likely to encounter, and it is a different thing from a weekly class in town: it is run at the monastery, on the monastery's calendar, alongside spiritual retreats and events. Ask the monastery about the curriculum, the price and the schedule.
Where it sits
Cambridge is in Washington County, on the far eastern side of this metro's reach – about 25 miles from Saratoga Springs, which is nonetheless its nearest large town, closer than Glens Falls and ten miles closer than Albany. For owners in the Battenkill valley it is the local option; for anyone else it is a destination, which is the honest way to describe a monastery.
