About Paul Gilbert’s Cowdog World

Cowdog training

Paul Gilbert's Cowdog World trains cowdogs at 3901 E Blue Haven Rd in Tishomingo. His about page says he started training cowdogs in 1998 with a border collie named Belle, and that trial runs with her led other owners to ask him to train their dogs. A good share of his clients are repeat customers who bring him dogs every year.

How training runs

The training page lays out the process: long walks first to build trust, then basic obedience on a rope with few distractions, working on Down, Here, Back and Kennel. Dogs then meet stock in a small pen, move up to bigger pens, and finish by gathering and fetching calves in open pasture. He limits how many dogs he has in training at one time so he can focus on each one.
