About Promise Pastures Herding and Training Facility

Herding on sheep and ducks

Promise Pastures is a herding training facility at 299 Old Mineral Springs Rd in Calhoun, in north Louisiana. Its site describes a 40 ft. round pen and several larger training areas, with sheep or ducks on hand for dogs at any level from beginner to advanced. Most AKC breeds are welcome, whether a handler is preparing for a trial or wants help working stock on a farm.

The trainer

The site says Promise Pastures is owned by Christa Medaries, who trains and competes with her own dogs and offers herding lessons. It credits her with over 18 years of stock experience and says she has trained different breeds to advanced levels and championships on sheep, ducks and cattle.

Clinics and rentals

Clubs and individuals can rent the facility for trials, clinics and seminars, and stock rental is available. Call (318) 614-9241 for stock work training.
