About Refined K9 Training, LLC

Structured obedience in Austin

Refined K9 Training is an Austin dog training business founded by trainer Laura Williams. Laura emphasizes structure, obedience, accountability and the dog's state of mind, and she aims to be a calm, consistent leader. Her system draws on the four quadrants of operant conditioning: reward-based training starts with a lot of positive motivation that is partly phased out as dogs learn, paired with low-level e-collar stimulation for clear communication. Dogs learn to respond under high distraction, and owners get hands-on coaching so the dog listens to them too.

Programs

The Refined Board & Train is three consecutive weeks in Laura's home learning sit, down, place, recall, loose leash heel and more. Graduates can return for the Refined Refresher, a 7-night stay to sharpen skills or address new problems. Private lessons target barking, counter surfing and leash reactivity. The 2 Week Puppy B&T, for puppies 8-15 weeks old, covers desensitization to the environment and basic training principles. Behavior work includes jumping, resource guarding and over-excitement.

What owners say

One client wrote that her dog is "the same sweet and goofy dog, but now he listens and knows what's expected of him."
