About Right Way K9 Training

Structured programs in Berea

Right Way K9 Training operates from a facility in Berea (the site references a trainer named Matt) and centers on structured, customized programs. The core offerings are board-and-train and private lessons, supported by puppy training foundations and behavior modification for issues like aggression, reactivity and anxiety. Enrichment-based daycare and boarding are available too, but reserved for active training clients.

Owner education and follow-up

A recurring theme is teaching the owner, not just the dog – the site stresses "educating you" and building personalized training plans, and one client describes the work as a "methodical, disciplined, and structured program." There is also a continued-education path for program alumni, which signals a focus on lasting results rather than a one-and-done class. The site does not state a specific named methodology, certifications or years in business, so owners who want those specifics should ask. A solid option for people wanting an immersive, structured board-and-train with strong owner involvement.

What they can help with

Your dog stays with the trainer for an immersive, multi-week program.
Early socialization, house-training and first manners for young dogs.
Behavior modification for unwanted or problem habits.

It was an eye-opening experience when we got our first Australian Shepherd. We had doubts about having to go to a trainer since we've had many dogs in the past, but we never had a dog like Kaiya. She had extreme separation anxiety, was highly vocal, jumped, pulled on the leash, darted near doorways, and had very high energy.

Matt at Right Way K9 Training put our minds at ease starting with the first session. His dog psychology, expertise, knowledge, and training techniques were amazing. After our first two sessions, we noticed a big difference in Kaiya. We signed up for 10 sessions. It was a valuable experience, and our journey with Kaiya has been very rewarding.

We are so glad we called Matt. We can't praise him enough—he is remarkable! I don't like comparing people, but all we have to say is: Cesar Millan, look out! There is a new King in town, and his name is Matt Slaughter!

Thank you!

The dog training provided by Matt, (the owner), to our 2 yr old Aussie Doodle, Cuervo, & us, was amazing! His depth of knowledge & excellent ability to present that knowledge was truly a great experience. His personable & friendly approach made each training session comfortable & a pleasure to attend. This was our first exposure to formal dog training, even though we have had many previous dogs. It taught us that, as owners, we are probably in just as much need of the understanding & training so as to have a better adjusted pet that is both physically & mentally stable. Matt provided the information, guidance & tools necessary to put us & Cuervo on a path of having a well trained & mentally adjusted happy dog. We highly recommend using Right Way K9 Training & look forward to utilizing his doggie daycare/boarding in the future.

I went into this pretty skeptical. We’d had a couple rough experiences with trainers/behavioralists in the area who jumped straight to “Let’s medicate your dog,” before trying any actual training. So my hopes were….low.

But Matt changed that immediately. From our very first session to our last, he gave me the tools to help her to be a happier, more confident dog. Dolly, my Saint Bernard went from fearful and reactive to being able to calmly be in the company with other dogs without lunging or barking. Which felt impossible before. I’m also a crazy animal lover and was very happy with his tactics.

I can walk her now without fearing being launched into traffic. Not exaggerating on this either. It’s happened. She now walks calmly beside me and everyone is happier and safer.

Rightwayk9training is the real deal. Can’t recommend them enough! They helped Dolly tremendously but me as well and now I can continue her training at home. So happy I didn’t give up.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience with Matt! From the moment we met him, it was clear we were in the hands of someone not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also genuinely passionate about helping both dogs and their humans.

Matt worked with us and our dog Ridley, and the transformation has been amazing. He was endlessly patient, friendly, and encouraging — the kind of trainer who makes you feel completely comfortable asking any question, big or small. It honestly felt like working with a good friend who truly cared about our success.

One of the things we appreciated most was the real-world application he brought into our training. Matt didn’t just teach us in a controlled environment — he took us out into public spaces, dog-friendly stores, and everyday situations so he could guide us through challenges as they happened. Seeing how to address things in real time was incredibly valuable and made us feel confident handling anything with Ridley out in the world.

He also taught us that dog training isn’t just about the dog — it’s about us learning how to communicate, connect, and show up for our pups in the right way. He helped us strengthen our relationship with Ridley in ways we never expected, and we’re so grateful for the joy and confidence that came from this process.

His facility is spotless, organized, and clearly run with the same level of care and professionalism that he brings to his training sessions. You can tell he puts his heart into everything he does.

We highly, highly recommend Matt to anyone looking to build a stronger bond with their dog and learn from someone who is smart, informative, and genuinely kind. He’s truly exceptional at what he does — Ridley loves him, and so do we!

We had a great experience working with Matt! I reached out to Matt to help with training our dog, Votto, to be a therapy dog for my office. Matt did a great job getting Votto prepared not only for the office but also helped with some nuisance behaviors we were accidentally reinforcing at home and on walks. As an added bonus, Votto loved his training visits and we could tell Matt genuinely loves dogs and is passionate about his work!
