About Rob Cary Pet Resort
Training school turned pet resort
Rob Cary Pet Resort, at 14824 Bulverde Road in San Antonio, began as Rob Cary Kennels and Training School in 1976 and became Rob Cary Pet Resort in 1997. It sits on 3.9 acres in north central San Antonio, with boarding, daycare, grooming and a pet store alongside a training program led by Training Director Jill Cooper.
Classes and method
Training uses positive reinforcement exclusively, with praise, treats and toys. New classes begin the first week of each month and meet one hour a week for three weeks. Puppy classes for puppies nine weeks to eight months ($90/month) cover lead training, sit, down, come, socialization and mouthing; Beginner's Obedience for dogs six months and older ($90/month) covers stay, loose-lead walking and waiting at doors. Introduction to Agility and Intermediate Agility are $90 a month. A five-week Board and Train boards dogs on site to learn basic obedience and manners. The staff includes an experienced AKC Evaluator.
What owners say
A client wrote that trainers Gary Oswalt and Vickie "clearly are excellent trainers with a lot of insight and experience."
