About South Plains Obedience Training
A member-run training club
South Plains Obedience Training Club (SPOTC) is a member-run dog club at 5222 Marsha Sharp Frwy in Lubbock. Its roots go back to training classes Caroline Handl started in early 1970 at her K9 Kennels facility outside Lubbock, which drew enough interest that the club was founded shortly after. The club promotes dog sports, training and responsible dog ownership, has over 60 members, and hosts AKC events such as Obedience and Agility.
Classes
The class entry fee is $150, with a non-refundable $50 deposit applied toward it, and sign-ups open about every 8 weeks; offerings vary with trainer availability. The New Puppy class serves puppies up to six months with leash walking, sit, down, wait, stay, drop, leave it and socialization, plus guidance on crate and potty training. Household Manners is for dogs six months and older that need basic skills and help with common behavior issues. Other classes include beginner and advanced Scent Work, Rally, Agility, beginner competitive AKC Obedience and Obedience Beyond Basics, which moves toward more complex commands and dog sports.
