About Tail Command

A day care and boarding facility that also runs a board-and-train

Tail Command describes itself on its home page as offering "Springfield's Best Dog Day Care, Dog Boarding, Dog Training, and Dog Bathing/Nails", and the site's navigation carries a separate page for each of those. The facility is described as "Open Range", which the site explains as more play time and more dogs to play with, with the stated benefit of "a more socially diverse, tired, and well-balanced dog in your home."

Command Camp

The training page describes one program: Command Camp, a stay-and-train the site calls a "hands-free method" aimed at owners who want to start a puppy off right, do not have time, or are going on vacation and want training added to a boarding stay. The site says camps usually last two to three weeks depending on the dog. The listed curriculum is sit, stay, come, leash work, some off-leash work, and socialization with both people and dogs, and the page says the camp helps knock out constant barking and jumping. The page is explicit about what is not included: potty training is not covered, though a free "Potty Training 101" worksheet is offered as a download and in the office. At the end of training the site says each routine and technique is reviewed with the owner, along with what motivates the dog.

Before a first visit

The home page lists intake requirements rather than leaving them to a phone call: dogs six months and older must be spayed or neutered for day care, boarding and training; Bordetella, Rabies and Distemper-Parvo must be current; and a clean fecal sample record from the owner's veterinarian is requested. New dogs are booked in for a temperament test day, which the site says is good for one year.

Where they are

The training page gives the address as 2861 East Stanton Street, Springfield. Prices are on the site's own prices page.
