Training built for little dogs

The Best Little Dog House in Texas is a daycare, boarding, grooming and training center for small dogs, 35 pounds and under, at 902 Fairview St in Houston's Montrose neighborhood. Training uses positive reinforcement only and happens in short mini-sessions during the daycare day, so dogs practice new skills in a busy, real-life setting.

The levels

Every level is built on PACE: Polite, Attentive, Calm, Exercise. Level 1 covers taking treats gently, four feet on the floor, eye contact, sit and down, the touch cue and calm greetings. Level 2 adds distance and duration stays, leave it, drop it and door manners, and Level 3 moves to come, place and tricks. Leash training includes off-site walks around cars, dogs and squirrels. Each program costs $1,200 and runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday for three weeks or Tuesday and Thursday for four weeks, with daycare included on training days. A $25 Level 1+ add-on reinforces skills for graduates.

Staff

Team members are PetTech certified in pet first aid and have trained through Dog Handler Academy.
