About TK Hot Kennels

Gun dog training in the Caldwell area

TK Hot Kennels, a Caldwell-area family-owned hunting dog trainer, describes itself as a Treasure Valley company with its versatile gun dog training based in Marsing. It trains dogs of all breeds and ages for upland, waterfowl, pheasant, chukar and shed antler hunting, and its programs follow the rules of AKC, NAVHDA, VHDF, VDD-GNA and JGHV hunt tests.

Approach

The kennel favors what it calls scientifically proven, principle-based training over traditional force-based methods, aiming for a confident, happy dog eager to please its owner. It uses a team approach of dog, trainer and owner, with monthly visits and lessons scheduled during training. A DIY training course helps owners build a strong foundation for a new gun dog puppy, and obedience-only dogs are accepted occasionally in a limited program.

The trainer

Head trainer Donny has over 14 years of professional dog training experience, is a graduate of the Michael Ellis School of Dog Trainers and has earned titles in AKC hunt tests and perfect scores in NAVHDA events.
