About Valley Dog Sports LLC

Barn Hunt club for the Portland metro

Valley Dog Sports is a Barn Hunt club serving Aloha, the Portland Metro and the Willamette Valley with trials and training. Founded in 2012, it calls itself the first Barn Hunt club in the Pacific Northwest. Nancy Griffith bought the club from founder Karla Sanders in 2021 and carries on her welcoming approach.

How Barn Hunt works

Dog and handler teams search a maze of straw or hay bales for rats kept safely in aerated tubes, working against a time limit that varies by level. Any breed or mix that fits through an 18-inch tunnel can play, and the club describes it as a sport where even a reactive dog can shine. In its words, "our dogs lead us."

Getting started

New teams begin with Barn Hunt 101. From there the club offers classes by level and experience, workshops on topics like tunneling from Novice to Masters, and trials.
