About Winston Salem Dog Training Club
Winston-Salem Dog Training Club is a club rather than a commercial school, and it has been running group classes for all breeds for over 61 years from its building on Bethania Station Road. It is an American Kennel Club member club.
Classes
The class offer is group training for the general public, taught by instructors and assistants the club describes as dedicated volunteers. Its own pitch is aimed at the handler as much as the dog: "Whether your dog is 5 months old or a senior, he can learn basic obedience. If you are willing to learn and work with your dog, our instructors will show you how to have a well-mannered companion."
How the term works
Classes run in sessions with a fixed calendar. For the fall session the club published the class schedule in advance, opened registration on a set date and time, and closed it a week and a half before classes began. Pages for Class Info, Registration, Know Before You Go and a Weather Policy cover the practicalities.
Trials and events
Beyond teaching, the club regularly conducts AKC Agility, AKC Obedience, AKC Rally, AKC Tracking and AKC Scent Work events, plus NADAC Agility, Flyball and Canine Freestyle. Some events run at the club building, others at outside venues such as Lone Hickory Arena. There is also an AKC Fit Dog walking club and a community service page.
Who it’s best for
Best for an owner who wants low-cost group classes and a route into AKC sports, and who can work to a term calendar.
