About Winter Kennels
Hunting dog and snake training in Austin
Winter Kennels is a training and boarding kennel at 2509 De Soto Dr in Austin, working by appointment with owners from Austin, Cedar Park, Round Rock, West Lake Hills, Bee Cave and the surrounding Central Texas area. The kennel dates its dedication to the owner and dog relationship to 1969. Its longtime trainer, Harlen, personally trained every dog brought to him; since his passing, his daughter Cory has taken over training and keeps his rule of taking only as many dogs as she can personally train.
Training
Winter Kennels specializes in bird dog and gun dog training, coaching for pointers and retrievers, and obedience training as a starting point for hunting dogs, and owners are taught what the dogs learn. Retriever and pointer students must be at least 5.5 months old, and dogs can cool off in the lake or pond for water work. Snake avoidance training starts at 5 months and uses a rattlesnake, a cottonmouth and a copperhead, all with no venom, at $60 per dog per snake. Three free refresher clinics run each year for dogs the kennel trained, and private refreshers are $40 per dog per snake. Outdoor boarding is offered to training clients. Payment is by cash or check.
