Beyond Obedience LLC is an Appleton, Wisconsin behavior consultancy, and its services page is unusually explicit about what it is and is not. The framing is owner-first: "Our services are designed with you and your pet in mind. We believe in teaching and coaching you as much as your dog. Understanding your dog enables you to intervene when needed and to prevent issues too!" The delivery is built around the client's schedule – "we offer custom-tailored training options, in the comfort of your own home, when its convenient for your schedule".

What they take on, and what they do not

The services offered are listed as "Virtual & In-Person Behavior Consultations", "Early Planning & Preparation" and "Day School". Directly beneath, the page lists what it does not offer: "In-Board Training", "Group Obedience Classes", "Service or Therapy Dog Training" and "Services for Serious Separation Anxiety (we choose to refer these out)". The behaviors it does address run long, from house training, crate training, marking, loose leash walking, jumping, barking and mouthing through to "Lunging/ barking on leash", resource guarding, "Aggression/reactivity towards other dogs", "Aggression towards people", fearfulness and children/dog dynamics.

How the process works

Step one is an initial evaluation held over Zoom. The reasoning is stated: "Many canine behaviors can be successfully addressed without us physically in your living room. After all, teaching YOU (the human client), comes first!" The page says history taking and direct questioning are enough to assess and often resolve issues, that a recording of the session is provided afterwards, and that an in-person consultation is recommended instead if the case is not suited to the virtual platform. Step two is a one-hour virtual or in-person follow-up, with a typed summary report "also sent to your vet upon request"; the page notes that "On average, cases generally require 3-4 follow-up appointments".

Published rates

The site publishes its prices. An initial virtual consultation of 1.5-2 hours is $250. In-person initial consultations – which the page calls rare, with necessity determined by Beyond Obedience – are $300 for a weekday daytime session and $350 for an evening or weekend session, including up to 15 miles of travel from the Appleton office with "each additional mile" incurring "a $2/mile round trip fee". A virtual follow-up consultation is $125.
