About Free Spirit Hounds

Free Spirit Hounds is an owner-operated, live-on-site daycare, boarding and training facility on nine acres of Wilkins Road in Bloomfield, and its training program is published as a three-stage path rather than a list of classes.

The training path

The three stages are named Puppy Pathways, Trails of Manners and Master Trailblazers, and the site groups them under a heading it calls the Trail to Success. The stated aim is broader than obedience: training is described as creating an open line of communication, strengthening the bond, and helping a dog feel secure and confident in the world around it. A separate training intake form starts the process.

The method, stated plainly

The site defines its method rather than naming it and moving on. Balanced dog training, as written there, combines positive reinforcement with gentle corrections to help dogs learn good behavior, and the stated goal is to teach dogs what to do rather than just what not to do. That is a clearer definition than most local sites give.

Who runs it

Kristina is the owner and head trainer. She publishes twenty-eight years of experience in animal care spanning dogs, cats, horses and farm animals, describes herself as an AKC trainer with ten years of experience, and says she specializes in rare Japanese breeds including Kishu Ken, Akita Inu and Shikoku Ken. Living on site is presented as the reason the environment stays calm.

Daycare and boarding

Daycare runs with 24/7 on-site presence, gentle group play and socialization at each dog's own pace, with constant supervision and a consistent routine. Boarding is described as a stress-free, home-like atmosphere, with a limited number of luxury suites.
