About Ibi Semper Training, Inc

Ibi Semper Training is a registered 501(c)(3) in Albany whose entire program is one thing done thoroughly: turning a veteran or first responder with a post-traumatic stress injury and their own dog into a certified service-dog team. Ibi Semper is Latin for always here, and the site gives the pronunciation, EE-bee, because people ask.

The eight-month program

Teams train in a small guided group, usually no more than four teams at a time. Six months are spent in classroom training. The teams are then tested for the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen and Canine Good Citizen Urban titles by accredited AKC evaluators. After that come two months of public-access training, in which the classroom lessons are repeated in real public settings at various locations across the Capital District, and the program completes on successful assessment.

Who it is for and what it costs the handler

The program is aimed at veterans and first responders with PTS injuries, and it works with the handler's own dog. The organization is funded by donations, sponsorships and merchandise sales rather than by program fees, and the site publishes an Amazon wish list through which supporters buy training equipment used during the eight months.

Transparency

The organization publishes its 501(c)(3) approval and holds the 2026 Gold Seal of Transparency with Candid, with its nonprofit profile linked from the site. Volunteer and sponsorship routes, an events calendar and a partners list are all published.

Why it matters locally

Service-dog training with a genuine public-access phase is scarce supply anywhere. In this metro it is published by exactly one organization, and it is a nonprofit with a defined intake rather than a commercial program.
