About Mossy Oak Kennels
What they offer
Mossy Oak Kennels breeds and trains British Labrador Retrievers for hunting and outdoor companionship. Its Training page lays out a four-level hunting dog program. The first level, Basic Obedience Training for a semi-started dog, normally takes about one month; by the end the dog walks at heel on lead, sits and stays on command, recalls on the here command, and makes single retrieves on land and water. The later levels add the place command, blind retrieves, double marks, whistle stops and hand signals, ending with Finished Hunting Dog Training done off lead.
About the trainers
The About page names Bill Gibson as Director of Gundog Operations and Kennel Master, and says that over the last fifteen years he has studied and applied low force dog training methods developed by trainers in the United Kingdom, The Republic of Ireland and the United States. It says he evaluates each dog and builds a custom training program for it. The contact block lists Bailey Newell as head trainer.
Good to know
Training takes place at the kennel's enclosed facility at 54 Truman Creek Road in West Point, and the Training page describes a no e-collars policy. Priority for training slots goes to pups the kennel sold; the Training page says it will only take "outside" pups when it can be sure kennel space will be available. The Training page publishes its monthly training fees and a reservation option, so check there or call for current terms.
