About Golden Paws K9 Obedience

Science-based training in Ankeny

Golden Paws K9 Obedience is an Ankeny dog training business owned by Wendy Turner, a professional dog trainer and Canine Good Citizen Evaluator who lists 20+ years' experience. Training is science-based, drawing on the teachings of Ivan Pavlov and B.F. Skinner, and focuses on learning each dog's unique language to strengthen communication and the bond with its owner. All breeds are welcome, and extended family members are encouraged to attend.

Training levels

Level 1 is basic in-home training, observing the dog at home and working on manners, boundaries and specific issues. Level 2 moves out and about into public settings to address fear, anxiety and reactivity, and can work toward Canine Good Citizen certification. Level 3 prepares dogs for therapy dog certification and Level 4 for service dog certification, with Levels 1 and 2 as prerequisites. Hunting dog training works on gunshot desensitization, a soft mouth when retrieving and scent training.
