The K9 Cavalry Colorado Dog Training is run by Alex Vanderwilt, who describes himself as a certified behavior specialist and dog trainer. Training starts with an in-home evaluation, then continues as weekly private lessons in your home: an obedience package covering sit, down, stay, place, boundaries, recall, socialization and house manners, an advanced package that adds distance, distraction and duration, off-leash heeling and competition obedience, a puppy package for dogs 6 months and under with crate training, potty training and nipping, and a package for extreme or dangerous behavior. Scent detection lessons and training for hunters are also offered.

Board and train

Board and trains happen at the trainer's home facility in Pueblo West, where he lives with the dogs in his care. Owners get a weekly lesson during the stay to see progress and learn the mechanics, plus frequent videos, and the program includes as many follow-up lessons at home as the number of weeks the dog stayed. Vacation boarding is available at the same property.
