Balanced training and rescue

Connecting with K9s is a dog training and rescue business in Creswell serving the Eugene area. The trainer has been training dogs for over 30 years, professionally since 2008, and started Connecting with K9s Rescue in March 2016. Rescue dogs complete a 3-week board and train program before going to new homes.

Method

This is a balanced trainer who uses treats, toys, prong collars, slip leads, electronic collars and praise. The stated starting formula is 20% corrections and 80% reward training, with corrections fading as the dog learns.

Private sessions and prices

After a questionnaire and phone consultation, a first 60-minute private session is $175 and follow-ups are $125. Package 1 (three sessions) is $400, and Package 2 for dogs with aggression (four sessions) is $525. Sessions cover jumping, barking, chewing, crate and potty training, leash pulling, leash reactivity, obedience and mild aggression.

Group classes

Life Skills for Dogs (6 months and older) and Life Skills for Puppies (8-20 weeks) run at Orchard Point Kennel in Eugene, mostly outdoors from April to October. The Life Skills for Dogs class is five weeks for $210. Previous clients can join the Connections Class ($140 for four weeks) or the drop-in Adventurers Class ($25/class) in public places. Sunday on-leash pack walks are also offered.
