About Kelly Engel | Dog Behaviorist and Training
What they offer
Kelly Engel is a dog behaviorist and trainer in Santa Fe. Consultations take place at her office, where her own dogs help with dog-to-dog evaluations and neutral socializing, or in the client's home. New puppy and shelter dog support helps owners choose a dog and plan its first three months, and she also mentors other trainers.
Immersive programs
Three board and train programs have the dog live and train with her pack. A two-week pack socialization program helps dogs that feel unsure around other dogs, a two-week off-leash control program introduces the remote training collar for socially neutral dogs over 6 months, and a longer behavior modification program works on leash and barrier reactivity, mild aggression, chasing and anxiety. Dogs must be crate trained, and each program starts with an evaluation.
About the trainer
The site says Kelly has over 40 years of experience in dog training, handling and competition, and that she built and ran a large dog behavior facility in Montana for nine years. Her experience includes search and rescue, nose work, aggression rehabilitation, sled dogs, agility and off-leash backcountry training.
How they train
The approach is relationship-based, with an emphasis on safety, peaceful co-existence and coaching owners to support their dogs after training.
