Heartland Ranch USA is a boarding ranch in Anthony, New Mexico, and its My Best Friend dog training program boards the dog in the trainer's home at the ranch. Training is highly customized but usually includes formal sessions, rides to the store, training in different locations, and exposure to other animals and strangers, with distractions added as the dog progresses. The aim is an obedient dog on or off leash at home, at work, in the car or out in public, and a calm dog when visitors arrive.

How it works

The program starts with an initial assessment at the ranch, where the trainer watches how the dog interacts with the family and talks through goals. Later, owners return to the ranch to work alongside the trainer, and training then moves to the owner's home or workplace to reinforce the dog's skills and coach family members.

About the trainer

The trainer, Mark Levine, says he has over 35 years of dog training experience, including family dogs and personal protection dogs.
