About HorseThief Kennels
Versatile and pointing dog training
HorseThief Kennels is a small bird dog training kennel in Roundup that trains versatile and pointing dogs. Dogs are trained and tested to NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) standards, but the kennel's first priority is training to hunt. Its own Pudelpointers hunt nearly every game bird in Montana, from grouse and huns on the September prairie to pheasant in the fall and ducks and geese in January.
How it works
Training is tailored to each hunter. Owners who only need pointing dog training can get that, while others can train for full versatile work. Only a few dogs are accepted at a time. Dustin Farrar, who runs the kennel, got his first versatile dog, an American Brittany, in 2003, later owned Wirehaired Pointing Griffons, and brought home his first Pudelpointer in 2018. He encourages new puppy owners to get in touch early, since a few simple steps before training can save time and money.
