About Cat’s Canine Academy

In-home obedience training in Houston

Cat's Canine Academy is a personal dog training company based in Houston that trains dogs in their own homes across the Greater Houston area, including Bear Creek, Copperfield, Cypress, Jersey Village, Katy, Longwood, Riata Ranch, River Oaks, Spring, Tomball and West University. It works with new puppies, problem dogs and everything in between, from housebreaking, chewing, play biting and jumping to aggression and destruction.

Two-part program

Part 1 runs 3 to 8 sessions within two weeks, with the trainer doing all the work: the dog learns commands such as heel, sit, stay, down and come on leash, and learns what a correction means, ending with a demonstration. Part 2, at least two sessions of 45-60 minutes, teaches the owner to handle the dog amid mild distractions, with outings to vet offices, pet stores and parks, and can continue through off-leash training.

Staff and pricing

Staff qualifications include a degree in Animal Science (Animal Behavior and Psychology) from Texas A&M, certification in private investigation for protection dogs (1999), certification as a contraband detection dog handler (1997 – 1998) and membership in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (2001). The evaluation fee is $115 – $175 by location, waived with a program purchase. Combination training averages $1395 – 1795, and follow-up lessons are $115+.
