About River Roan Kennels

Gundog kennel in Salisbury

River Roan Kennels is a Salisbury training kennel owned by trainer Joe Finney, who says he trained his first retriever more than twenty years ago before leaving a corporate career to train full time.

Approach

The stated philosophy is training that is fun and innovative, with low pressure and stress on the dog. The kennel limits how many dogs it takes each month, and owners are brought into the training toward the end of a program.

Training offered

Services run from puppy programs to finished gundog work. Retriever training includes preparation for AKC and HRC hunt tests, and upland training is also listed. For families, obedience training aims at a fully obedient dog that can be enjoyed on and off leash.

What to ask

Ask how long a typical program runs, how many dogs are in training at once, and when you will start handling your dog yourself.
