Ability Dogs of Arizona
Overview
About Ability Dogs of Arizona
What they offer
Ability Dogs of Arizona opened in 1973 and describes itself as Arizona's only ADI-accredited owner-train service dog program. Instead of placing finished dogs, it gives people the tools and close supervision to train their own service dog, for tasks such as diabetic alert, hearing alert, mobility assistance, psychiatric assistance and seizure response. Certified teams get free group lessons for as long as the dog serves.
Pet classes
The same positive, reward-based methods are offered to pet owners. The site lists pet classes in basic obedience, Canine Good Citizen certification and agility, plus one-on-one private consultations, with a separate Tucson class schedule.
Facility dogs
A structured six-month group program trains dogs to work in professional settings alongside their handlers.
Before you book
Service dog programs have eligibility requirements, so ask about them before you enroll a dog.
