About Bent Oak Kennels

Gun dog training in Kaplan

Bent Oak Kennels in Kaplan also operates Old Son Retriever Academy, whose website carries the same phone number and trains gun dogs for hunting and hunt tests. The owner, Andrew Trahan, writes that he has been training dogs since he was thirteen, first his own dog and then dogs for friends and relatives, with local trainers as mentors.

Programs

The started gun dog program covers basic obedience, single marks, short blind retrieves, an introduction to gunfire and to birds, and e-collar conditioning. The finished gun dog program follows with hand casting, multiple marked retrieves and long blind retrieves. The academy also runs hunt test training for Started, Seasoned or Finished titles, a puppy head start for socialization and early obedience, and pre-season tune-ups.
