About Canine Cabin Coaching
A veterinary technician who trains
Canine Cabin Coaching is Ruth Valentine, working out of Tupper Lake. The combination she leads with is the useful part: she is a Licensed Veterinary Technician as well as a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy, and she says what that is for – she is trained to spot medical causes, naming pain and thyroid problems, that can be mislabeled as bad behavior. Neither credential can be checked here against an issuing body, because KPA is not a registry covered for New York and the CCPDT registry holds no Valentine, so both are recorded as the business reports them. Her earlier work was with captive wildlife, training North American river otters and common ravens to accept routine veterinary care, which she credits for the emphasis on cooperation over compulsion.
Five packages, with the prices published
This is one of the few trainers in the northern Adirondacks who publishes a price list, and every package is private rather than group. **Basecamp Consultation** is the mandatory first step at ninety dollars for sixty minutes: a behavioral and lifestyle assessment covering the dog's developmental stage, physical health and breed drives, with a written plan inside twenty-four hours. **Foundation Fireplace** is four hundred and fifty dollars for six private in-home sessions and covers puppies and newly adopted adults – recall, cooperative care for vet handling, and what she calls the connection language. **Adolescent Alpine** is the same price and length for the six-to-eighteen-month stage, with enrichment puzzles chosen for the breed. **Loose Leash Lodge** is two hundred and fifty dollars for three sessions on walking skills, pulling and reactive barking on the leash. **Senior Suite Hikes** is seventy-five dollars a session for graduates, on cognitive support and adapting the home as a dog ages.
How the work is delivered
Home-based, in the client's own space. The site is direct about the reasoning: training does not happen in a vacuum, so sessions run in the living room and on the route the dog is actually walked. Packages include the assessment, a written plan and direct follow-up from the trainer between sessions. The published catchment is Tupper Lake, Piercefield, Childwold, Cranberry Lake, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, which reaches west into St Lawrence County, and virtual sessions are offered beyond it. At the time this profile was written the site noted limited availability for new clients.
What is not here
No group classes, no board and train, no daycare, no facility to visit. Ruth Valentine also volunteer-teaches at the Adirondack High Peaks Dog Training Club in Saranac Lake, which is listed separately in this directory and is a different business; a volunteer post is not a shared premises, and nothing in the two records overlaps.
Why the county matters
The business publishes Tupper Lake, New York 12986 as its address, which puts it in Franklin County, even though the towns it serves run over the line into St Lawrence County. A service area is not a base town, and this profile is filed where the business says it is.
