About Canine Companion- Abbie Volpone, LLC

Canine Companion Dog Training is a force-free trainer based in Ypsilanti who comes to you. Its FAQ says: "There is no physical facility, though I do offer classes at indoor locations", and the trainer travels to your home or another agreed place.

How it trains

The Training Methods page lists the labels it works under, among them "Science-based", "Positive Reinforcement", "Force Free" and "Reward Based", and states: "I will NOT use or condone the use of forceful methods or harmful equipment such as prong collars or e-collars."

Sessions

New students book an evaluation and a follow-up first, agree a training plan, then book further sessions as they need them. The menu covers at-home private sessions, public outings to practice in the real world, day training for current students, phone consultations, and virtual sessions over Zoom, FaceTime or Skype. Session fees include 10 miles of travel from the 48198 zip code; longer trips add a mileage fee.

Classes, title testing and working dogs

Rotating group classes are taught at the Humane Society of Huron Valley, including a Reactive Rover class for dogs who struggle with seeing other dogs on leash and a six-week AKC Canine Good Citizen class. The trainer is an AKC evaluator and tests for S.T.A.R. Puppy, CGC, Community Canine, Urban CGC, Home Manners and Trick Dog titles. For working dogs, the focus is therapy dogs in any setting and psychiatric service dogs.

Credentials

The trainer was certified by the Victoria Stilwell Academy in 2021 (VSA-CDT), completed a Family Dog Mediator course in 2025 (FDM), and is a member of the Pet Professional Guild.

Booking

All booking is online. The FAQ warns that the schedule often books up months in advance and suggests booking several appointments at a time; a waitlist sends notice of cancellations. Texting (734) 596-1725 is the quickest way to reach the trainer.
