About Canine University
What they offer
Canine University (K9U) serves NE Ohio and Southwest Florida, and its home page says it currently offers in-person private training in SW Florida and online private training across the country. Private sessions cover housetraining, management, puppy basics, obedience, behavior issues, leash manners and reliable recall. The business also prepares dogs for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and therapy dog evaluations, runs service dog and Diabetic Alert Dog training programs, and describes a Puppy Training Starter Program, a board and train done in the trainer's home rather than a kennel.
How it works
The Private Training page says one-on-one sessions suit owners with specific issues, schedules that rule out group classes, or a wish to train at home or in a park. In-person sessions happen at the owner's home or on location and are arranged around the owner's schedule, and owners complete a questionnaire before the first session. Live video sessions run over Zoom or FaceTime, with emailed notes, handouts and videos available. The About page describes a training philosophy built on positive motivation, to keep a good relationship between dog and family.
Who runs it
Canine University operates under Canine Tutor, LLC, owned and managed by Amy Spence Gutmann, trainer and primary behaviorist. Her faculty bio says she opened The Canine Tutor in 1994, has been a TDI evaluator since 2000 and is a registered AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. She also breeds Labrador and Golden Retrievers.
