In-home training in New Haven
Cara Diatta Dog Training provides in-home dog training and behavior modification in the New Haven area. Cara Diatta is a Certified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (GDMI) through the International Guide Dog Federation and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA). She spent six years training guide dogs for people with vision loss at a non-profit organization, working with over 100 guide dogs, and has spent time with trainers in the service dog, scent detection and law enforcement fields.
Method
Cara is committed to positive reinforcement, marker/clicker, relationship-based and force-free training. She teaches clients to read their dog's body language and to interact with their dog in a consistent, clear way.
Services
Work starts with an introductory session to gather information, discuss expectations, create a training plan and teach foundational skills. Follow-up sessions cover basic obedience and leash manners; reactivity, separation anxiety, resource guarding, fear of strangers and dog aggression, using desensitization and counter-conditioning; puppy training and housebreaking; socialization; and enrichment. She also offers extra practice sessions with the dog while the owner is away.
What owners say
One client called her "the consummate dog trainer" and wrote, "I see growth in my puppy every week and my puppy just loves her."
