Christian K-9 Academy

We brought our 10 month old Newfoundland to Christian K9 Academy after struggling to train her ourselves at home. We were having problems with listening, playing too rough with the children and smaller dogs, and generally becoming uncontrollable when excited. At around 100lbs and still growing, it was becoming a big concern, especially with our 3 year old and other small children that would visit and want to play outside.

We opted for the 2 week board and train program and worked with Dean. He was fantastic with the dog, providing us updates, pictures, and videos, and addressing our concerns.

When we picked Maple up she was a new dog. Able to walk on leash and take commands, able to walk off leash and take commands, and her excitement could be controlled around children and adults. The chasing, knocking down our excited toddler, and taking his toys is no longer an issue. She understands and responds to common commands (come, heel, sit, stay, down, place) and is wonderful to walk on and off leash now.

Additionally, we’re not dog trainers, we’ve owned multiple dogs and know how to teach them for the most part, but Maple is by far the largest dog we’ve owned and the lack of control was more of a problem than past dogs. I say this to highlight how great Dean was during the pick up process and the continued support. He spent multiple hours with us, teaching us how to reinforce the training Maple had received, how to adjust for issues, and how to continue training at home to squash issues and teach new behaviors. Once home we’ve continued to be in communication with Dean about how she’s doing and addressing issues.

We were running out of ideas and patience when we decided on the board and train program, and we’re so thankful for the results. We have a new dog, the kids can safely and confidently play in the backyard without fear of being chased and/or knocked down, and we can go on family walks around the farm again without worries or constantly needing to yell and correct the dog or rescue the children from her out of control behavior. We also are assured follow up sessions as needed as part of our package, but the dog has been doing so well, I’m not even sure we’ll need them.

I highly recommend Christian K9 Academy to any and all dog owners looking to improve their and their dogs lives, together.

Dean did an excellent job training my two pups. He kept me informed throughout the process and sent plenty of updates, and he has continued to check in since pickup to make sure the training is translating well at home.

He built a strong training foundation for me to continue reinforcing. Go in with realistic expectations—while it feels like the trainers work magic, consistency at home is still key.

My previously naughty boys are now sweet gentlemen that don’t bark, walk side by side without pulling, and come when called. Over Christmas, my entire family was amazed at how much calmer they are!

I was already a much happier pet parent, but this past weekend really confirmed I made the right decision choosing ChristianK9. My four-year-old accidentally let the pups out on a snowy night, and by the time I realized, they were already half a block away. I ran after them and called them. They came right back, ignoring barking dogs across the street, and walked calmly at my heel all the way home.

All I got to say is Mitch is amazing!! Level 3 snow emergency and we were out shoveling ourselves out to try to get my dog too him for his 2 week board and train. No other day we could get our dog there because we are flying out in the morning for our cheer national competition in Florida. Mitch said don’t worry, I will come and get him for you. 30 minutes later Mitch showed up in my driveway and loaded my dog up!! What amazing customer service is that? Hard to find people who truly care that much about making your day easier and tone down the stress! Confident my 100lb St Bernard will come home in two weeks well trained!! Thank you Mitch!!! Update! Got Bentley back after two week board and train and we couldn’t be more happier!! We came to pick up Bentley and we got trained too how to use the tools and commands Bentley learned! Thank you so much for Mitch and Dean for training our baby! Dean kept us updated with pictures and videos too along the whole way! I looked so forward to these videos and pictures! Great place, great training, and highly highly recommended!!

I sent my dog Nala for a 2 week board and train about a year ago to help with her dog reactivity.

Not only was there an immense positive change in her behaviors and training upon pick up – but Dean and all the Christian K9 staff have invested in her and my own continuous learning at the monthly maintenance classes. As such, her behaviors and training have continued to positively grow even after her completing training, and my confidence and knowledge as her owner has also grown.

Furthermore, I love that regular boarding is offered following a dogs completion of the board and train program. The peace of mind of Nala being only around highly trained dogs and being supervised by trainers who know her well while she is boarding is unmatched.

The positive impact that Christian K9 has had on me and my dogs life is immense, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trainer in the Columbus area!

I highly recommend taking your dog to Christian K9 Academy for obedience training! My stubborn 4-year-old Addie completed a 20-day board-and-train program with them and I couldn’t be happier with the results. She enjoyed her time there and now she’s amazing on walks with no pulling. She is also trained to respond to the heel, down, place, sit, and the FREE (my favorite) commands.
Dean and Mitchell did an outstanding job working with her and kept me updated on her progress throughout her stay with videos of her progress and photos. He also took the time to teach me how to continue her training at home. Super thankful for Dean, Mitchell and the team.
