About Companion Dog School of Tulsa
What they offer
Companion Dog School of Tulsa is a not-for-profit dog club run by volunteers, at 4411 South 91st East Avenue. Its home page lists puppy, agility, obedience, conformation and nosework classes, and its tagline is "Training you to train your dog since 1955." All breeds and mixed breeds are welcome.
The classes
Puppies can start in Puppy Kindergarten or Puppy Agility; Puppy Agility is for puppies aged 4 to 12 months and mixes small equipment with basic manners and loose leash walking. Basic Manners is an eight-week class covering loose leash walking, sitting, lying down, coming when called and staying; the page asks you not to bring your dog to the first class. Obedience and rally classes run from basic manners to competitive heeling, agility runs in five levels plus weave-pole and boxwork classes, and nosework follows UKC and AKC scent-search levels.
How the training works
The obedience page says instructors encourage positive reinforcement with treats and praise, and the classes page says training follows American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club standards. Most classes run 8 to 9 weeks, in winter, spring, summer and fall sessions.
Good to know
Enrollment is through an online account, and the classes page mentions a discount for rescue dogs. Puppy agility asks for current vaccinations and a negative fecal test.
