About Tulsa Dog Training Club
What they offer
Tulsa Dog Training Club runs group classes at its building at 6307 South 107th East Ave. The classes page lists puppy classes, beginner obedience, junior handlers, novice, open and utility obedience, rally, tricks and agility, and the home page adds scent work and advanced obedience. The club says it teaches from puppy kindergarten to the highest levels of competitive obedience and agility.
Who teaches
The home page says the club was organized in 1947 and calls itself the oldest obedience training club in the State of Oklahoma. Its members volunteer, and the classes page says every instructor has earned at least one AKC Obedience Title with their own dog and completes a hands-on apprenticeship.
How the classes work
The club teaches positive methods using treats, toys and verbal praise. Beginner obedience starts with a one-hour orientation held without dogs, and you need a properly fitted collar and a six-foot leash. The club says it may refuse admittance to, or ask for a muzzle on, a dog with an aggressive temperament, so ask first if that describes your dog. There is a discount on the first obedience class for dogs adopted from an approved organization.
Beyond classes
The club hosts obedience and agility trials and supports Paw Pals, a therapy group whose dogs visit nursing homes, hospitals and group homes.
