About Covey Find Kennel

What they offer

Covey Find Kennel is a bird dog training and field trial handling kennel at 15486 US-160, just outside Winfield, run by trainer and handler Scott Johnson. The home page says it offers extensive bird dog training for bird hunters.

Training

The training page describes a program laid out around each owner's expectations. Puppies are accepted from about six months for basic gun dog commands and early work with birds and gunfire; after a hunting season, a second phase develops steadiness on point, backing and retrieving. The kennel also works on problems such as reluctance to honor, holding point and gun shyness. Retriever training for waterfowl and upland hunting is offered too.

Companion dogs

The training page also offers obedience training for all dogs to make them better pets, done at the facility, through private lessons or in obedience school.

Good to know

Owner instruction on handling the dog in the field is included before the dog goes home. The schedule page notes that the handler is on the field trial circuit for part of the spring and fall, so call ahead.
