About Deep Fork Retrievers Inc

What they offer

Deep Fork Retrievers is a hunting retriever training and breeding kennel at 12601 SE 15th St in Choctaw. Its main emphasis is training gun dogs: the Gun Dog Training Program prepares a retriever to hunt, marking competently, steady to wing and shot and reliably delivering to hand. A Puppy Head Start Program works on a young dog's temperament, memory and bond with its owner before formal training.

How they train

The site describes training as a developmental process, and says the basic program is the same whether a dog will run in competition or hunt as a companion. It says the gun dog level of training is typically reached in four to six months, depending on the dog's ability and background.

Good to know

The site names the owners as John and Beth Ann Amico, members of the Professional Retriever Trainers Association (PRTA), and says the kennel has run its training and breeding programs for 40 years. This is specialist retriever work rather than pet obedience.
