About Dog Jitsu Training

Real-world obedience across the northwest suburbs

Dog Jitsu Training describes itself as a northwest Chicago suburbs dog trainer offering "personalized training for dogs of all ages, breeds, and behavior challenges." Its services page says it serves Kane, McHenry, Lake, DuPage, DeKalb and Cook counties.

Programs

Four formats are published as bookable. The board and train program is described as intensive and structured, with dogs working on "foundational obedience, leash manners, social skills, and everyday behaviors, including sit, down, stay, recall, place, crate training." Private in-home lessons put the work in the dog's own environment, "where behavior actually matters." Group training classes are framed around focus and reliability around other dogs and people. Virtual lessons are offered for owner coaching and troubleshooting without travel.

The trainer's stated background

The About page is written in the first person and is not signed. It says the trainer's dog training career "started in March 2015" after adopting a first dog, that the move into training full time followed a slow five-year transition away from a landscaping business of 10 years, and that a full-time training position at a local facility began in the spring of 2020. In the spring of 2021 the writer enrolled in The Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers in Santa Rosa, California, described as six months of immersion covering puppy raising, motivation, behavior modification, advanced obedience and nose work. The page also says the trainer competes in the sport of Mondio Ring.
